Primary Purpose

 

Provide leadership and oversight for the campus comprehensive school counseling program while directing assigned areas of instructional programming, student services, and campus operations. Serve as a member of the campus administrative team to promote academic achievement, positive campus culture, student well-being, and equitable access to opportunities for all students.

Major Responsibilities and Duties

 

Comprehensive School Counseling Program (minimum 80%)


Guidance Curriculum

  1. Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate a structured, developmentally appropriate guidance curriculum.
  2. Deliver classroom lessons, small group sessions, and large group presentations addressing academic planning, post-secondary readiness, personal health and safety, and social-emotional development.
  3. Collaborate with teachers to integrate guidance standards into core content areas.
  4. Ensure equitable access to advanced coursework and post-secondary opportunities for all student populations.

Responsive Services

  1. Serve as a trained crisis responder and coordinate campus crisis response efforts in collaboration with district personnel and local agencies.
  2. Act as an impartial, non-reporting resource for student conflict resolution, including bullying concerns.
  3. participate in behavioral threat assessment and safe and supportive schools teams.
  4. Provide referrals and coordinate with community agencies when appropriate.

Individual Planning

  1. Assist students and families in monitoring academic progress and planning for graduation and post-secondary pathways.
  2. Interpret standardized testing data and assist with personal graduation plans.
  3. Support grade-level transitions and career exploration activities.
  4. Advocate for underserved and special populations to ensure equitable placement and services.

System Support

  1. Conduct annual counseling program audits and develop action plans aligned to campus improvement goals.
  2. Provide training and consultation to staff and parents regarding student development and mental health supports.
  3. Maintain accurate documentation and comply with legal, ethical, and professional standards.

Assistant Principal (maximum 20%)

 

Instructional Leadership

  1. Support and reinforce high expectations for instructional strategies and classroom management.
  2. Participate in instructional program evaluation and recommend improvements.
  3. Analyze student performance data to guide instructional decisions and intervention planning.
  4. Promote collegiality, collaboration, and shared decision-making among staff.

Student Management & Campus Culture

  1. Conduct parent, student, and teacher conferences regarding academic and behavioral concerns.
  2. Ensure consistent, equitable enforcement of campus policies.
  3. Oversee student supervision during non-instructional periods.
  4. Monitor attendance trends and coordinate intervention efforts.

School Improvement & Campus Operations

  1. Assist in planning and scheduling daily school activities, including master schedule development and teacher assignments.
  2. Oversee campus operations in the absence of the principal.
  3. Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal policies and regulations.

Assessment

  1. Plan, implement, and promote campus standardized testing program.
  2. Interpret tests and other appraisal results appropriately and communicate to school personnel, students, and their parents.
  3. Maintain the confidentiality of student assessment.
