Description

This application is for returning substitutes who worked in the 2024-2025 school year.

If you are new to Blanco ISD or did not work as a substitute in the 2024-2025 school year, please complete the Substitute, Instructional application.

Primary Purpose:

Under the direction of the Principal and school secretary, a substitute teacher is responsible for providing instruction, managing the classroom environment, and promoting student learning in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

-High school diploma or GED

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

-Ability to understand and follow directions

-Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

-Must be able to proficiently read, write, speak and understand the English language.

-Must have the ability to proactively communicate with principal, faculty, staff, students, and parents

-Must have the ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies.

 

Experience:

-Experience working with children preferred

-Attend Blanco ISD Substitute Teacher Orientation

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

Instructional and Program Management

  1. Maintains and respects confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
  2. Maintains discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school policies.
  3. Ensures adequate supervision to assure the health, welfare, and safety of all students.
  4. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  5. Reports to office upon arrival at school; requests clarification of school rules and procedures, if necessary.
  6. Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible.
  7. Implements lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner that motivates students to learn and participate.
  8. Organizes students for effective instruction.
  9. Dismisses all students from the classroom before leaving the building.
  10. Completes a report Form for the regular classroom teacher.
  11. Collects and places students’ papers in regular teacher’s desk.
  12. Returns instructional materials, equipment, and keys to proper place.
  13. Determines if his/her services will be required for the next school day.

  1. Complies with and supports school regulations and policies.
  2. Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities
  3. Performs other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school policies and practices.
  4. Maintain confidentiality.
  5. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals

Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching

Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)

Environment: Work inside; may work outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
