Description

Primary Purpose:

Under the direction of the Principal and school secretary, a substitute is responsible for following directions of the supervisor and fufilling the job duties of the absent employee.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Clear and valid Texas driver’s license 
  • High school diploma or GED (Preferred) 

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to understand and follow directions
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Must be able to proficiently read, write, speak and understand the English language.
  • Must have the ability to proactively communicate with principal, faculty, staff, students, and parents
  • Must have the ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies.

 

Experience:

  • Experience working with children preferred
  • Attend Blanco ISD Substitute Orientation

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

Instructional and Program Management

  1. Maintains and respects confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
  2. Ensures the adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students.
  3. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  4. Reports to office upon arrival at school; requests clarification of school rules and procedures, if necessary.
  5. Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible.
  6. Implements daily assignment, while ensuring the integrity of time and in a professional manner.
  7. Returns instructional materials, equipment, and keys to proper place.
  8. Determines if his/her services will be required for the next school day.

  1. Complies with and supports school regulations and policies.
  2. Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities
  3. Performs other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school policies and practices.
  4. Maintain confidentiality.
  5. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals

Posture: Prolonged sitting; prolonged standing; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motions; occasional reaching

Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (up to 40 pounds)

Environment: Work inside; may work outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
